Rachel
Myatt trained for 2 years in a beauty salon and qualified as a Beautician.
She spent a year working in 3 different salons. She decided to open her
own salon, and so the name K-Sa-Ra
was born with the help of her parents, and of her 2 sisters, Kerrie and
Sarah, (hence the name made from their initials) in 1991, as a Nail and
Beauty Salon also offering sun bed and body treatments.
Due
to the creative talents of Kerrie and Rachel, and the PR talents of
Sarah and the girls mum, Margo, K-Sa-Ra
became well known for nailart, and started teaching students, holding
courses monthly. Sarah and
Margo were in charge of the business side, with other family members
involved in manufacturing of the products. The retail side was also doing
well, and they started to sell clip-on nail jewelry to customers, then to
other nail salon. A mail order
catalogue was produced for nailart products and jewelry.
After 5 years, the mail order and training took off and they made a
major decision to close the salon. The
girls still miss it so much, but knew that the training and mail order
needed all of their time and effort. Since
then they have not looked back.
The
training took off, and Rachel and Kerrie were soon teaching five days a week
in nailart, nail extensions and airbrushing. Sarah and Margo with their 6
staff, ran the shop and mail order. The K-Sa-Ra
“All You Need To Know About Nail Art” book was produced, selling over
50,000 copies to date and in over 6 countries. It is commonly used in
colleges for educating students who are learning nailart. Rachel went on to
gain her D32, D33 and D34 (assessing and internal verification exams), her
7306 in adult education, NVQ level 4 in training and development, and NVQ
B13 and C19 qualifications in nail extensions.
The
“Nail Store” was opened in 1998, a nail techs heaven, selling everything
for fingernails and was followed by a large secure internet shopping site.
The 13 wholesalers that now distribute the range and the sales team are
looked after by Phil, the company sales manager. The website and
administration is managed by Abby. Rachel
is a judge at most of the national nail competitions, including Nail
Technician of the Year and is also a member of the ANT competition and
education committee. Most
recently she has also joined the nail industries top nail forum, HABIA, who
are responsible for producing the NVQ standards. K-Sa-Ra
exhibit at major trade shows in London and Manchester every year. The
company also advertise in trade magazines and are constantly being asked for
features and contributions. Their products are used by celebrities, nail
technicians and the general public. They have featured in many trade and
consumer magazines, used at London Fashion week, all of the Harry Potter
films, on GMTV and sold on QVC.
We
are very proud to be a Satellite Assessment Center for the Association of
Nail Technicians and City and Guilds, and hold assessments for the NVQ
qualifications in manicure, pedicure, nail extensions and nailart.
